Three - Boards

  • The Board of Apprenticeship & Training (BOAT), under the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD), focuses on graduate/technician, diploma, and BE candidates only.
  • The Directorate General of Training (DGT), part of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), specifically caters to ITI candidates.
  • The National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) offers training opportunities for a broader range of individuals, including those who have passed at least the 5th standard, up to postgraduates, enabling skill development for various educational backgrounds.

Amendments in Apprenticeship(NAPS)

  • Apprentices can have a minimum qualification of 5th class, with no upper limit, allowing even postgraduates to join.
  • The age requirement is a minimum of 14 years.
  • Apprentices can be engaged for 6 to 36 months in the Optional Trade category and can work in the 3rd shift without prior approval.
  • Establishments must engage at least 2.5% of their total strength as apprentices, with the option to increase this to 15%, including contract workers.
  • The number of apprentices is based on workforce size:
    • 0–4 employees: no apprentices required
    • 4–29 employees: voluntary engagement
    • 30+ employees: mandatory engagement of at least 2.5%, up to 15%
  • NAPS trainees can have qualifications from 5th class to ITI in any trade.

Benefits to the Establishment

  • Establishment can claim entire expenses incurred on Apprentices(From 2.6% to 15%)
  • Reimbursement of 25% prescribed stipend amount paid to apprentices per month
  • Maximum up to Rs.1500/- month from MSDE to Establishment directly as a part of incentive
  • Apprentices can work in core area
  • ESI, PF, Bonus are not applicable
  • No labor law compliances
  • Longevity up to 3 years
  • Flexi Entry & Exit
  • 15% Of Total Strength can be utilised for the Apprentices
